OWNER’S OBLIGATIONS

Maintenance Responsibilities
Vehicle safety and operational reliability is dependant on maintenance work. The Chrysler/Jeep/Dodge vehicle maintenance system if followed and carried out at the prescribed intervals and under normal conditions will exceed the lifespan and durability designed into the product.

You as the owner need to ensure the prescribed maintenance is done on time within distance parameters at a Chrysler/Jeep/ Dodge franchised dealer to ensure continuity of the warranty.

  • Front Wheel Alignment and Wheel Balance. Front wheel alignment and wheel balance are affected by operating conditions such as corrugated roads, driving against the kerb, rapid acceleration and stops, tyre skidding, etc.
Wheel alignment and balancing will contribute to longer tyre life and better vehicle handling.

  • Tyre Care. Incorrect inflation pressures, rapid acceleration, quick stops, high vehicle speeds and loads, all effect tyre life and can cause uneven wear.
  • Spark Plugs. Spark plugs are subject to wear and/or contamination. They should be inspected periodically and replaced if necessary for maximum performance and economy.
  • Rear Axle/Transmission Oil Change. Where the vehicle is operated in muddy areas, the beach, creeks/flooded areas, etc. drive train components should be serviced as soon as possible, as damage caused by water entry or corrosion is not covered under Warranty.
  • Brake and Clutch Adjustments. Brake and clutch linings are subject to wear from usage depending upon driving conditions and driving habits of each individual driver. Periodic check of brake lining condition and clutch linkage adjustment is recommended for safe and trouble free operation.
  • Positive Crankcase Ventilation Valve. Crankcase vapours and other impurities may cause malfunctions of the crankcase ventilation valve. Periodic inspection or replacement may be necessary for smooth engine operation.
  • Paint and Trim. These are affected by normal wear and exposure. Proper maintenance and care of these items can add to their appearance and durability.
  • Wiper Blades. The life is dependent upon use and climatic conditions and wipers should be replaced when necessary.
  • Cooling Hoses. All hoses must be checked and replaced if necessary at intervals specified in the Service Schedule.
  • Engine Oil Change and Filters. Changing engine oil, air cleaner and oil filter elements at recommended intervals are your best investment in prolonged engine life, efficiency and performance. Should a vehicle not be in operation the oil must be changed after 1 year before the vehicle is used. Non adherence to service intervals can jeopardise the vehicle warranty.
  • Belt Adjustments. To ensure proper performance of belt-driven engine components, all belts must be checked and adjusted periodically.
Note: Drive belts must be replaced at intervals specified in the Service Schedule.
  • Valves and Carbon Deposits. A degree of carbon build-up is normal in the combustion chambers of any engine, depending upon fuel quality and operating conditions. For best results follow the recommendations of your selling dealer on types and grades of fuels and oils which should be used regularly.
  • Lubrication. Heat, cold, dusty conditions or unusually wet weather all contribute to the need for lubrication at regular intervals. Throttle linkage, parking brake linkage and body parts such as door and cab latches and hinges, weather stripping, etc. should receive attention at every oil change.

Rules for Transfer of Warranty and Maintenance Plan
The warranty and maintenance plan remains with the vehicle, and is transferable subject to the following:

  1. The vehicle has to have a full service history available for scrutiny.

  2. A Chrysler/Jeep/ Dodge franchised dealer must have maintained the vehicle as per the applicable service schedule, at the correct kilometre intervals and the required service certificates shall have been completed and stamped by the Chrysler South Africa (Pty) Ltd. franchised dealer.

  3. If the vehicle is bought or sold privately, or bought or sold on an auction or otherwise, any Warranty or Maintenance plan is not automatically transferred. This can only be done by a franchised Chrysler/Jeep/Dodge Dealer. (Conditions apply)

  4. The vehicle has to be in a 100% roadworthy condition.

  5. The vehicle has to be free of body rust and or corrosion. It is therefore the responsibility of the selling dealer to ensure this.
